Today, at the first meeting of the APEC Standards and Conformity Assessment Subcommittee (SCSC) held in Guangzhou for 2026, it was learned that the meeting was chaired by China and organized by the General Administration of Market Regulation. Several APEC cooperation projects proposed by China received positive responses from various economies.
Among them, a focus on the application of brain-computer interface technology in the rehabilitation field, promoting regional coordination of APEC digital rehabilitation standards and testing technologies, and improving the ISO international standard system for brain-computer interfaces.
An initiative proposing new projects for digital empowerment and green transformation, focusing on the application potential of advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, and the Internet of Things in addressing climate change, and promoting the implementation of ISO green low-carbon international standards in APEC economies.
Additionally, a project on “Standardization of Elderly-Friendly Food Design” was proposed, focusing on common issues faced by regional economies in elderly nutrition improvement and food adaptation, promoting standardized pathways for elderly-friendly food design, and providing international collaborative solutions to promote healthy aging and innovative development, fully leveraging the fundamental role of standardization in public health governance.
Against the backdrop of a complex and volatile global economy with increased uncertainties, this meeting focused on development trends such as digitalization, intelligence, and greening, actively promoting dialogue and cooperation in standards and conformity assessment in the Asia-Pacific region, and supporting the region in achieving inclusive, high-quality, and sustainable economic growth.
The APEC Standards and Conformity Assessment Subcommittee (SCSC) was established in 1994 and is composed of representatives from APEC member economies. Its main task is to strengthen coordination and cooperation on technical trade measures such as standards, certification, metrology, and testing, reduce technical barriers to trade, and support the liberalization and facilitation of trade and investment in the APEC region.
