Polymarket has officially been blocked in Vietnam, with over 30 countries also implementing bans.
After operating in Vietnam for some time, Polymarket is now facing an official blockade from authorities. The Cybersecurity and High-Tech Crime Prevention Department (under the Ministry of Public Security) has publicly identified Polymarket as an online gambling platform, violating Vietnamese laws regarding gambling and betting activities in cyberspace.
The Ministry of Public Security identifies Polymarket as an online gambling platform
The Ministry of Public Security has issued an official warning advising users not to access Polymarket. Any attempt to bypass this notice will be recorded in the access history. Violators may face legal measures according to Vietnamese law.
In fact, Polymarket is considered a prediction market platform with high betting characteristics. Users can wager on the outcomes of political, sports, or economic events, similar to traditional gambling activities. For this reason, it is classified as a gambling platform and blocked by authorities.
Legal consequences for users who violate the warning
Users are warned that continuing to access Polymarket after receiving the Ministry of Public Security’s warning constitutes a violation of the law. Each access attempt is recorded in detail, including IP address and time, which can be used as evidence in subsequent legal actions.
This not only affects individual users but also poses risks to businesses or organizations if they allow access from corporate networks.
Global trend of blocking Polymarket
Vietnam is not the only country implementing a blockade against Polymarket. Previously, this platform has been banned or restricted in over 30 other countries, including European nations such as France, Germany, the UK, Italy, Poland, Belgium, as well as Middle Eastern countries like Iran. This indicates a growing global trend toward tighter monitoring and restriction of cross-border online gambling platforms.
