The wealth of the world's richest people reaches new all-time high
The collective wealth of the 500 richest people in the world experienced unprecedented growth in 2025, accumulating gains of $2.2 trillion. This increase raised their combined net worth to $11.9 trillion, marking the largest expansion recorded by leading institutions tracking global wealth. The world’s wealthiest individuals benefited from a broad market boom across various sectors, including stocks, cryptocurrencies, and precious metals.
Multi-market boom drives billionaire wealth expansion
The exceptional performance in 2025 reflected dynamism across multiple investment segments. Stock markets experienced a surge driven by technology, while alternative wealth in cryptocurrencies and commodities also contributed significantly to the increase. This widespread expansion accelerated asset value growth for billionaires, who have diversified exposure in these categories.
Tech giants lead wealth momentum
Technology giants were the main drivers of wealth growth. Persistent enthusiasm for artificial intelligence continued to boost the performance of major U.S. companies, allowing executives and founders in the tech sector to amass exceptional gains. This momentum was reflected both in increased company valuations and in the appreciation of their stock market values.
Eight entrepreneurs account for a quarter of new gains
A notable aspect of the 2025 growth is that about a quarter of all wealth gains came from just 8 individuals. Among them are Oracle President Larry Ellison; Tesla CEO Elon Musk; Alphabet co-founder Larry Page; and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. However, it is important to note that this concentration in wealth growth was lower than in 2024, when these same 8 billionaires accounted for 43% of total gains. This comparison suggests that in 2025, the growth of the world’s wealthiest was more broadly distributed among the top 500 wealthiest individuals.
