Gate News, March 17 – Bitcoin payment service provider Bitrefill disclosed on the X platform that on March 1 it suffered a cyberattack resulting in customer data breach. The attack originated from a compromised employee laptop, which led to unauthorized access to certain databases and cryptocurrency wallets. Investigation shows that this attack method is very similar to previous attacks by North Korean DPRK Lazarus/Bluenoroff hacker group targeting cryptocurrency businesses. Approximately 18,500 purchase records containing limited customer information, including email, encrypted billing addresses and IP metadata, were accessed, of which around 1,000 records contained encrypted customer names that may have been accessed. Bitrefill stated that customers do not need to take any special action, but should remain vigilant against unusual information. Currently, the company has isolated relevant systems and is cooperating with security experts, blockchain analysts and law enforcement agencies, and has recovered operations to near-normal status. Bitrefill emphasized that the business has long-term profitability and sufficient capital to withstand this damage, and will continue to strengthen cybersecurity measures, including internal access control, monitoring and emergency response mechanisms.
