Just read this wild story about a hacker called Spirdark who got busted for stealing unreleased Ed Sheeran tracks and selling them on the dark web for Bitcoin. Dude was only 23, from Ipswich in the UK, named Adrian Kwiatkowski. Police found over a thousand stolen songs from 89 different artists on his devices when they raided his place. The whole thing started when music agents noticed someone was hacking into their clients' accounts back in 2019. Spirdark was basically running a dark web marketplace for unreleased music, getting paid in crypto. He pleaded guilty to a bunch of charges - unauthorized computer access, copyright violations, possession of criminal property, the works. Got hit with 18 months in prison. What's crazy is the detective said Kwiatkowski was a seriously skilled hacker, but instead of using those skills for something legit, he just went straight to stealing from artists and their production companies. This is why crypto and dark web activity gets so much scrutiny from law enforcement. Pretty much every time you hear about someone making serious money in crypto on the dark web, it's attached to something illegal like this.
