Biden's election campaign unexpectedly "changes course" with the cryptocurrency industry.
Some people have reported noticing a significant “shift” in tone from the Biden administration and campaign towards cryptocurrencies, being willing to learn about digital assets.![]()
The re-election campaign of President Joe Biden has begun reaching out to figures in the cryptocurrency industry, researching community guidelines in crypto and future cryptocurrency policies. According to multiple anonymous sources due to the sensitive nature of the ongoing discussions, this approach marks a “significant shift” from Biden’s previous cautious approach to the industry.
The efforts to consolidate began about two weeks ago, as Biden’s team increasingly recognized the impact of issues related to cryptocurrencies that could affect the presidential race with an extremely close margin. As part of this approach, the campaign team has reached out to a number of cryptocurrency experts, including figures in the industry that Biden had previously rejected.
The participation of the campaign with digital asset experts comes right after cryptocurrency supporters opposed the Biden administration’s plan to reject SAB 121, a controversial cryptocurrency legislation criticized for potentially discouraging financial institutions from providing cryptocurrency custody services.
The change in tone follows Trump’s campaign announcement on May 21 that they will accept cryptocurrency donations, along with recent statements by former President Donald Trump in support of cryptocurrency and opposition to CBDC (Central Bank Digital Currency) at the 2024 National Conservative Party Conference.
This is completely contrary to Trump’s view in 2021 when he called cryptocurrencies “a very dangerous thing.” Like President Biden’s campaign, former President Trump also has a team that seems to have brought the leading Republican candidate to a more positive stance on digital assets.
“They have some very smart people who can advise on this, and you have seen some results from that and will see more in the months to come,” a close source to Trump with connections in the cryptocurrency industry said.
The actions in Biden’s election campaign have been positively received by many people in the cryptocurrency industry. However, a source noted that some figures in the industry remain skeptical, considering this approach to be insufficient and too late.
